William and Kate Urged to Revitalize the Commonwealth

As the Commonwealth faces turbulent times, royal experts are calling on and Princess Kate to step up their efforts to support this vital international alliance.

Concerns have been raised that the couple is not doing enough to strengthen ties among the member nations, especially in light of recent developments that have left the organization in a precarious position.

Royal commentator Tominey, who serves as associate editor for The Telegraph, has voiced her concerns regarding the Commonwealth's current state.

She noted that the Australian state of Victoria has withdrawn from hosting the upcoming Commonwealth Games, signaling a pressing need for revitalization within this family of nations.

Tominey emphasized that both William and Kate could play a crucial role in providing the support needed during this critical time.

In her column, Tominey remarked on the visibility of the Prince and Princess of Wales in recent weeks, highlighting their playful appearance on Mike Tindall's podcast, “The Good, The Bad and The Rugby.”

While such engagements showcase their personalities, Tominey believes they must also focus on serious matters concerning the Commonwealth.

Their public appearances, including Kate's visit to HMP Highdown in Surrey, reflect a lighter side, but the stakes are much higher.

Looking ahead, the couple is scheduled to travel to Singapore in November for the unveiling of the 2023 Earthshot Prize winners.

However, there appears to be a lack of plans for an autumn tour, raising eyebrows among royal watchers.

Tominey pointed out that the last significant overseas trip for the Waleses was to the Caribbean in March 2022, a substantial gap that has left some feeling anxious about their commitment to the Commonwealth.

While it's understandable that parenting young children can limit long-haul travel, royal duties often require such commitments, particularly for the heir to the throne.

Tominey suggested that the upcoming two-week October half-term break from Lambrook School could provide an ideal opportunity for the couple to embark on a meaningful trip to the Commonwealth, making a historic impact.

Statistics reveal that William and Kate have engaged in a modest number of royal duties this year.

As of July, William had conducted 54 solo engagements, while Kate had completed 45, with the couple appearing jointly 40 times.

Comparatively, these figures resemble their workload in 2019, when their children were all under seven years old.

This raises questions about whether they should increase their royal responsibilities now that their children are older and more independent.

Commentator Daniela Elza highlighted that with all three of their children now attending school, William and Kate have more free time than before.

She argued that this newfound availability should translate into a more active presence in royal engagements, particularly in promoting the Commonwealth's interests.

Yet, despite the potential for increased involvement, there seems to be a reluctance to do so.

Interestingly, public opinion appears divided on this issue.

A recent poll conducted by Express.co.uk asked readers whether they believed the couple should undertake more royal engagements.

Out of 1,011 votes, a majority—59%—responded negatively, suggesting that they should not increase their workload.
