Palace officials have confirmed unexpected and somber news regarding the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Today marks a significant anniversary as exactly 70 years ago, the Queen, alongside , embarked on a royal tour in place of her father, King George VI.

This momentous occasion took place at London Airport and holds great historical significance.

The upcoming celebrations planned for later this year will honor the Queen's remarkable 70-year reign with a bumper bank holiday weekend filled with various events during the first weekend of June.

The Queen officially ascended to the throne in February of 1952 following the untimely death of her beloved father, King George VI.

This year, the 70th anniversary of his passing falls on Sunday, February 6.

However, today also marks a poignant anniversary for the Queen, as January 31, 1952, was the final time she saw her father before his passing, after which she assumed the role of monarch.

On this cold and blustery day seven decades ago, Princess Elizabeth, as she was known then, and the late departed for a significant royal tour of the Commonwealth from London Airport.

Accompanying them at the airport were King George VI, Queen Mother, and Princess Margaret, who bid farewell to the royal couple as they embarked on their journey to Nairobi, Kenya.

This departure not only marked the last time Princess Elizabeth saw her father but also served as King George VI's final public appearance.

Shortly after their departure, the King passed away in his sleep at Sandringham, leading to Princess Elizabeth's immediate proclamation as Queen.

The heartbreaking news of King George VI's demise reached Princess Elizabeth in Kenya, where Prince Philip conveyed the sorrowful message to her.

Despite her grief, fulfilled her public duties and promptly discussed the logistics of her return to England.

The Royal Party journeyed back to London on the Royal Boat Argonaut, making a stop in Libya for refueling.

Upon landing in London, a mourning outfit awaited the Queen, ensuring she emerged appropriately attired to face the awaiting dignitaries, including Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Currently, the Queen is residing at Sandringham, specifically Wood Farm, where her late husband, Prince Philip, spent his final years.

Following Prince Philip's passing last April at the age of 99, the Queen now faces the emotional task of commemorating her father's death anniversary without her beloved consort by her side.

Angela Kelly, the Queen's personal adviser and dresser, reminisced about a lighthearted moment during a royal tour to Australia in 2006, highlighting the Queen's fondness for kookaburras, native Australian birds.

During the tour, Ms. Kelly orchestrated a playful prank involving a stuffed kookaburra toy, amusing the Queen with the unexpected sight of the bird.

The light-hearted incident ended with the Queen playfully reprimanding Ms. Kelly for the trick, showcasing a glimpse of the Queen's sense of humor amidst her royal responsibilities.
