Trooping the Colour: King Charles III Bestows Honorary Colonel Title on Princess Catherine
Three months after being bestowed with the title of Princess of Wales by King Charles III, the monarch's eldest daughter-in-law has been appointed as an Honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards.
This prestigious title was previously held by her husband, Prince William, over a decade ago.
Known for her unwavering support of the Guards unit during St. Patrick's Day celebrations since joining the royal family in 2011, Princess Catherine is seen as a natural fit for this new royal role.
During the traditional procession to welcome the Irish Guards, Princess Catherine is often seen donning a striking green ensemble.
The festivities include raising a toast with Guinness and a special visit from Thurlow Moore, the beloved Irish wolfhound regimental mascot known as Seamus.
This new role holds sentimental value for the 40-year-old princess as she follows in the footsteps of her husband, Prince William, whom she holds dear.
Before their royal wedding, Prince William was recognized as the Honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards by Queen Elizabeth in 2011.
With Prince William now assuming the title of Prince of Wales, King Charles III has appointed him as the Colonel of the Welsh Guards.
This decision was announced just a day after the passing of Queen Elizabeth on September 8.
Additionally, the title of Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, previously held by Prince Andrew, has been conferred upon Queen Consort Camilla by King Charles III.
The Palace has confirmed that Trooping the Colour, the first public celebration of King Charles' birthday, will take place on June 17, 2023, shortly after his coronation on May 6.
Despite King Charles' November birth, the decision to celebrate in June, following the tradition set by Queen Elizabeth, is due to the more favorable weather conditions.
This custom dates back to 1748, during the reign of King George II, where the annual Trooping of the Colour became a tribute to both the monarch and the armed forces.
Throughout Queen Elizabeth's reign, Trooping the Colour grew into a significant event, captivating audiences worldwide through television broadcasts and colorful photographs that showcased the royal family.
Over 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians are expected to partake in the grand march.
Members of the royal family will join the parade either on horseback or in carriages from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards, where King Charles III will greet the gathered crowds.
The culmination of the event will see the royal family gather on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to witness a flypast by the Red Arrows and Royal Air Force aircraft.
