The Toll by Queen’s Grandchildren Begins
The Queen's eight grandchildren are set to participate in a vigil, taking turns watching over her coffin in Westminster Hall shortly.
Among them are King Charles' children, Princes William and Harry, along with Peter Phillips, Zara Tindall, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, and Lady Louise and Viscount Severn, whose father is Prince Edward.
Notably, Viscount Severn is a mere 14 years old.
A significant development allows the Prince of Wales and Harry to don military attire during the vigil.
Initially, the King's younger son was not slated to wear such attire, but an intervention has now granted him permission.
Over the weekend, Prince William, Prince Harry, and Queen Elizabeth II's other grandchildren stood watch at her lying-in state, as the Royal Family readies to bid farewell to the late monarch at her state funeral.
The poignant vigil saw the brothers standing guard for 15 minutes over the Queen's coffin in Westminster Hall, where it has been on public display since Wednesday.
They were accompanied by Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips, the children of Princess Anne, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, daughters of Prince Andrew, and Lady Louise and Viscount Severn, children of Prince Edward.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex were also in attendance to support their children, as Louise and James are relatively younger than their cousins, according to a royal source cited by CNN.
Harry's attire during the vigil, which included military uniform, was at the behest of King Charles III, as confirmed by a royal source.
Despite being a non-working member of the Royal Family, Harry has previously appeared at events in mourning attire.
The grandchildren's vigil mirrors a similar appearance made by Charles and his siblings the day before, just ahead of the Queen's upcoming state funeral on Monday.
The passing of the monarch on September 8, following a remarkable 70-year reign, has triggered a nationwide period of mourning and numerous commemorative events.
Notably, William and Harry have set aside longstanding tensions to make joint appearances at select events, including a surprise walkabout in Windsor last weekend with their wives Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, in a joint statement issued on Saturday, expressed their gratitude and sorrow for their “dear granny” and “beloved Queen.”
The heartfelt message conveyed their deep sense of loss, stating, “We, like many, thought you'd be here forever.
And we all miss you terribly.”
The sisters fondly remembered the Queen as their matriarch and guide, expressing their eternal gratitude for the lessons and memories she imparted.
As the world mourns the Queen's passing, tributes continue to pour in, honoring her remarkable leadership.
The sisters concluded their statement by bidding a poignant farewell to their dear granny, expressing pride in having been her granddaughters.
