Stevens’ Candid Critique: Meghan and Harry’s Offer Rejected

Fisher Stevens, the renowned Oscar-winning filmmaker, made a bold decision by declining Meghan’s proposal following the success of the Beckham project.

His firm stance was rooted in what he perceived as a lack of star quality.

Despite his reputation for a series highlighting David Beckham’s sporting prowess, Stevens firmly believes his directorial brilliance shines brightest away from the soccer field.

Having gained exclusive access to David and Victoria Beckham, Stevens embarked on a serious documentary project, leveraging his experience directing Leonardo DiCaprio in the acclaimed 2016 climate change documentary, “Before the Flood.”

His accolades include an Oscar win in 2010 for producing “The Cove” and a 2020 Emmy nomination for executive producing Netflix’s “Tiger King.”

In a recent interview with the Sunday Times of London, Stevens revealed how he became involved in the Beckham documentary.

A surprise call from Leonardo DiCaprio led to a collaboration with David Beckham, resulting in over 30 hours of interviews conducted by Stevens over two years.

He humorously likened the experience to being Beckham’s personal therapist, commending the Beckhams for their openness and principled approach to life and work.

When asked about other collaboration offers post-Beckham project, Stevens chuckled at the mention of Meghan and Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Despite their interest, Stevens found their approach unprofessional and lacking the star quality he sought.

He expressed doubts about the potential value of a long-term partnership, citing a misalignment with his professional ethos.

Stevens unabashedly critiqued Meghan and Harry, stating they did not fit the Hollywood mold and lacked the necessary qualities for successful collaboration.

While acknowledging their Netflix documentary success, he questioned their ability to establish themselves as entertainment industry powerhouses, drawing comparisons to their past TV endeavors that failed to resonate with audiences.

Despite setting records with their Netflix debut, doubts linger about Meghan and Harry’s standing in the entertainment world.

Notably, Spotify executive Bill Simmons labeled them as “grifters” upon ending their podcasting partnership, while UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer expressed skepticism about Meghan’s audio talents.

Stevens’ candid assessment raises pertinent questions about the couple’s trajectory in entertainment, challenging their self-proclaimed roles in the industry.
