Royal Foundation Donates More Than Archwell in 2021
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Archwell Foundation made headlines last year for its charitable contributions, but leaked tax documents reveal that it falls short compared to Prince William and Kate Middleton's The Royal Foundation.
In 2021, Archwell donated 25% of its income, while the Royal Foundation contributed over 80%.
The documents show that Archwell raised £10.5 million, with the majority coming from two wealthy donors – £8.1 million from one and £2.4 million from another.
Additionally, £3,622.58 was received from the public.
On its website, Archwell states its core purpose as “to do good.”
Despite raising substantial funds, the foundation donated £2,507,987, leaving a balance of £7,304,967.
In contrast, The Royal Foundation, which does not rely on public fundraising or government grants, amassed a total of £20.4 million.
After donating £16.4 million, it retained £4.7 million for future endeavors.
Interestingly, Harry and Meghan paid their CEO handsomely for minimal work.
Former Liberal Democrat CEO James Holt received a salary of £48,474.66 and £3,103.88 in benefits for working just one hour per week, equating to £991 per hour.
The foundation also compensated two other staff members a total of £132,997.22 in salaries in 2021.
The Royal Foundation, known for its philanthropic investments in areas like supporting disadvantaged youth, military veterans, and sustainable development, employs 36 individuals earning over £60,000 annually.
Notably, one employee earns between £150,000 and £200,000, while others fall into salary brackets ranging from £70,000 to £100,000.
Archwell Foundation, established by Harry and Meghan following their departure from the Royal Foundation, focuses on creating a better online world, restoring trust in information, and uplifting communities.
Partnering with organizations like the National Women's Law Centre and Girls Inc., Archwell has engaged in various charitable initiatives, including joining the Los Angeles Service Platoon to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Moreover, Archwell is a founding member of the Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund and has introduced the NAACP Archwell Digital Civil Rights Award.
Meghan's involvement with charities like Harvest Home and Smart Works has been instrumental, showcasing her commitment to philanthropy.
Notably, she contributed a cake recipe to a charity cookbook, underscoring her dedication to charitable causes.
Prince Harry's memoir, “Spare,” was recently promoted on Archwell's news page, acknowledging his courage, honesty, humor, and light.
As the Sussexes and Cambridges continue their philanthropic endeavors, the question arises: Who is making a greater impact?
