Royal Family Tensions Rise Ahead of King Charles’ Coronation
Despite Prince Harry's planned attendance at King Charles' coronation on May 6th, insiders reveal that his presence may not mend the strained relationship with his brother, Prince William.
The upcoming royal event is expected to bring the two brothers together, but the rift between them remains palpable, with no recent communication between the siblings.
Prince Harry's surprise visit to London last month did not include meetings with King Charles or Prince William, underscoring the ongoing tension within the family.
According to a Palace insider speaking exclusively to People for this week's cover story, the atmosphere between the royal siblings is tense as they prepare for their father's crowning ceremony.
Despite Buckingham Palace's confirmation of Prince Harry's attendance, the insider suggests that his participation in the historic event is unlikely to alleviate the existing tensions.
“I don't think the coronation and a big conversation can be conflated,” the insider remarks.
In his recent memoir, “Spare,” Prince Harry disclosed details that shed light on the rift between him and Prince William.
The memoir recounts a heated confrontation in 2019 over Harry's relationship with Meghan Markle, during which Prince William allegedly turned physically aggressive.
Describing the incident, Prince Harry wrote, “He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and knocked me to the floor.”
The memoir also addresses Prince William's negative remarks about Meghan, which further strained their relationship.
During an interview earlier this year, Prince Harry expressed his desire to address the unresolved issues with his family before the coronation.
He emphasized the importance of open communication, stating, “There's a lot to be discussed, and I really hope they're willing to sit down and talk about it.”
However, hopes for a reconciliation were dampened when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex received communication about the royal event indirectly through King Charles' office, rather than directly from Prince Charles himself.
Despite the lack of a direct meeting, sources indicate that Prince Charles and Prince Harry did manage to have a positive conversation, albeit not in person.
A close friend of the Sussexes mentioned that while the initial communication channels were not ideal, the estranged father and son were able to connect and exchange cordial words.
Royal biographer Sally Beddlesmith reflected on the situation, noting, “Despite the wounds, it's his son, and I can't imagine he wouldn't want him there, regardless of the hurtful things that have been said.”
As the date of King Charles' coronation approaches, the anticipation mounts regarding the reunion of the royal family members.
The dynamics between Prince Harry, Prince William, and their father remain complex, with unresolved issues lingering beneath the surface.
