Royal Drama Unfolds: Meghan Markle’s Subtle Gesture Towards King Charles Sparks Controversy
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has once again found herself at the center of royal controversy, this time for what some perceive as a subtle yet significant gesture towards King Charles III.
As she was spotted out and about in Santa Barbara, California, on Monday, December 4, sporting workout gear and an array of luxurious jewelry, including Princess Diana's watch and a Bentley and Skinner diamond tennis bracelet adorned with 92 round-cut diamonds valued at a minimum of £4,900, speculation arose over the message she may have been sending to the monarch.
The diamond tennis bracelet, a gift from King Charles to Markle on the eve of her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018, has become a focal point of debate among royal observers.
While some interpreted her choice to wear the bracelet alongside her Cartier love bracelet as a show of support or a peace offering to the king, others viewed it as a thinly veiled act of mockery aimed at King Charles.
Social media platforms were abuzz with differing opinions regarding Markle's intentions.
One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, remarked, “Support?
More like rubbing his face in it.
This is a paid pap walk of a narcissist.”
Another user questioned, “Is she offering him an olive branch?
Or is she mocking him?”
A third user highlighted, “She's mocking him, just like she did with the titles.”
Markle's decision to wear the contentious bracelet during a recent hike with friends, instead of attending her father-in-law's coronation in London, further fueled speculation about her motives.
This latest incident follows the release of journalist Omid Scobie's book, Endgame, at the end of last month, which reignited public interest in the ongoing tensions within the royal family.
During a revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier in 2021, Markle and Prince Harry disclosed that two unnamed members of the royal family had expressed concerns about the potential skin color of their son, Prince Archie, while Markle was pregnant.
Although the identities of the individuals making these remarks were initially withheld, they were later revealed in the Dutch translation of Scobie's book, prompting polarized reactions from the media and the public.
While most British press outlets chose not to disclose the names of those implicated in the racial comments, Piers Morgan took a different approach by divulging the information on his uncensored talk show.
