Royal Bedtime Stories: A Glimpse into the Family Life of Prince Charles
In a delightful revelation, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has shared how Prince Charles brings joy to his grandchildren—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—through bedtime stories.
This insight into their family life comes just ahead of her 75th birthday, offering royal watchers a rare peek behind the palace doors.
During a candid interview with the Daily Mail, Camilla spoke fondly of Charles' close bond with the little royals.
When asked if he still reads them bedtime stories, she responded with a smile, noting that they're still young enough to enjoy it.
“He's very good at it,” she said, adding that he loves to perform different voices for the tales, particularly enjoying the adventures of Babar the Elephant.
“They are such lovely books,” she remarked, emphasizing that even adults can appreciate them.
The Duchess also touched on whether Charles shares his childhood favorites with his grandchildren.
She nodded, saying, “I think we all do that, don't we?” However, she humorously mentioned her own struggles with reading Black Beauty to her granddaughter Eliza, who finds it too upsetting when animals are harmed.
This isn't the first time we've heard about Charles as a doting grandfather.
Back in 2018, during the BBC documentary “Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70,” Camilla described him as someone who gets down on the floor to play with his grandkids, making funny noises and crawling around.
“My grandchildren adore him, absolutely adore him,” she said, highlighting the joy he brings to their lives.
Prince William also praised his father's role as a granddad in that documentary.
He expressed a desire for Charles to slow down his busy schedule to spend more time with George, Charlotte, and Louis.
“It's something I'm working more heavily on,” he noted, acknowledging that while Charles is fit, he hopes for even more family time together.
The Duke of Cambridge shared his concerns about ensuring the children's health and well-being while balancing their royal duties.
He emphasized that having Charles around more often would be wonderful, especially since he brings so much joy to the children when he is present.
Beyond their family interactions, both Charles and Camilla share a profound love for literature.
The Duchess is actively involved in various literacy initiatives, serving as the patron for organizations like Book Trust and First Story.
Her commitment to promoting reading is evident in her efforts to inspire others through literature.
In January 2021, Camilla launched The Reading Room, an online book club aimed at fostering a love for reading among followers.
Each season, she curates a list of recommended books, allowing participants to engage with her literary choices.
The accompanying Instagram account features lively discussions with authors and insights into the world of books.
Charles has also joined in on the literary fun, participating in the project by reading a Christmas carol last December to celebrate the holiday season.
His enthusiasm for reading and storytelling aligns perfectly with Camilla's mission to promote literacy.
As the royal family continues to grow and evolve, the bond between Charles and his grandchildren remains a heartwarming aspect of their lives.
