Queen Bids Farewell to HMS Queen Elizabeth Ahead of Historic Voyage

In a poignant moment, Queen Elizabeth II made her way to Portsmouth on Saturday to say goodbye to HMS Queen Elizabeth as it prepared for its maiden voyage.

This visit marked the monarch's second public appearance since the passing of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, just last month.

At 95, Her Majesty has been gradually re-emerging into public life, having recently attended the State Opening of Parliament—her first trip to London in over six months.

For much of the past year, the Queen has been residing at Windsor Castle, prioritizing her health and safety amid the ongoing pandemic.

It was a significant occasion, not just for the Queen but for the Royal Navy as well, as she stepped aboard the impressive aircraft carrier.

She was warmly welcomed by Captain Angus Esenhay, the ship's Commanding Officer, and Commodore Stephen Morehouse, who has a long-standing connection with the vessel.

The Queen's connection with HMS Queen Elizabeth dates back to March 2020, before the world entered lockdown.

At that time, she held an audience at Buckingham Palace with both Commodore Morehouse and Captain Esenhay, marking a transition in leadership for the ship.
