Princess Eugenie Dreams Big: Royal Duties from Abroad
Princess Eugenie of York is determined to expand her royal duties, even as she settles into life in Portugal.
The daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Eugenie, along with her husband Jack Brooksbank, made the move abroad in 2022.
Despite the distance, it seems her commitment to royal responsibilities remains strong, according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams.
In a recent conversation with GB News, Fitzwilliams shared insights into Eugenie's aspirations.
He highlighted that while the couple enjoys their new life in Portugal, they still harbor ambitions to take on more royal engagements.
“Princess Beatrice and Eugenie are content with their current lives,” he noted, “but they would likely appreciate the opportunity to increase their involvement with royal duties.”
Eugenie and Jack have embraced their new home, which the Princess described as a dream come true during her appearance on the Tables Manners podcast.
She expressed how liberating it feels to shop in her workout clothes without drawing attention.
“I can go to the supermarket in my exercise gear and my hair piled on my head and not mind,” she said, emphasizing the relaxed atmosphere of her new surroundings.
However, there are complexities tied to their royal status.
Fitzwilliams pointed out that if Eugenie and Beatrice were to take on more official roles, they would receive financial support from the Duchy of Lancaster.
Yet, the shadow of their father, Prince Andrew, looms large over their potential engagements.
The public perception of Andrew's controversies could hinder their chances of being fully embraced as working royals.
The palace is currently in the process of reviewing royal patronages, which adds another layer of uncertainty.
Fitzwilliams suggested that any changes regarding Eugenie's duties would depend on the outcome of this review.
For now, it appears unlikely that either sister will see an increase in their royal responsibilities.
Despite these challenges, Eugenie's desire to remain connected to the royal family is evident.
She and Jack have built a life that balances personal happiness with their royal heritage.
As they navigate their new chapter in Portugal, their commitment to family and career remains a priority.
