Princess Charlotte’s Connection to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s New Baby, Lilibet

Princess Charlotte's family ties have taken on a new dimension with the arrival of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's baby girl, Lilibet.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joyfully shared the news of their daughter's birth on Friday, revealing that she weighed 7lbs and 11oz.

The newborn has been christened Lilibet, in tribute to both the Queen and the late Princess Diana, bearing the full name Lily Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

The choice of name holds a special significance, not only in honoring royal lineage but also in creating a sweet connection to Princess Charlotte.

The six-year-old royal, a niece to Prince Harry, shares a commonality with her newborn cousin, as both girls carry the name of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Princess Charlotte, the second child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, was born on May 2, 2015, and her full name was later revealed as Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, paying homage to Her Majesty and Princess Diana.

The announcement of Lilibet's birth was made by Meghan and Harry's press secretary, confirming that the baby girl arrived at 11.40 am at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California.

Both mother and child are reported to be in good health, settling into their new home.

The statement elaborated on the name choices, with Lily honoring the Queen, known affectionately as Lilibet within the family, and Diana paying tribute to Harry's late grandmother, Princess Diana.

It is customary for royal children to honor family members through their names, a tradition that has been upheld through generations.

Princess Anne, for instance, bears the name Elizabeth Alice Louise, reflecting her royal lineage.

Similarly, Zara Anne Elizabeth Tyndall named her daughter Lena Elizabeth Tyndall, passing down the legacy of the name Elizabeth within the family.

Recent royal births have also seen nods to beloved family members, such as Prince Philip.

Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank welcomed their son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, earlier this year.

Zara and Mike Tyndall chose to name their son Lucas Philip Tyndall in honor of the Queen's husband.

The upcoming birth of Princess Beatrice and Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi's child is anticipated to include a tribute to the Queen with the middle name Elizabeth, should they have a daughter.
