Princess Charlotte to Inherit Iconic Diana Heirloom in Royal Jewels Selection
Princess Charlotte, the seven-year-old daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton, is reportedly set to receive one of Princess Diana's most cherished heirlooms as part of her selection of royal jewels.
Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the ascension of King Charles III, Charlotte, being the only daughter of the next in line to the throne, has been earmarked for this special privilege.
On the other hand, reports suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter, Lilibet, who is one year old, may not be included in the inheritance due to her position in the line of succession.
According to sources cited by the Daily Star, the collection of jewels available to Princess Charlotte will feature a significant piece previously worn by Princess Diana herself.
The stunning Spencer tiara, worn by Diana on her wedding day to Prince Charles in 1981, holds historical significance as it had been in the Spencer family for nearly a century before Diana became a Windsor.
Notably, the tiara had also been worn by Diana's elder sisters, Lady Sarah McCorkadale and Lady Jane Fellows, prior to her.
Unlike Meghan Markle, who borrowed a tiara from the queen for her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, Diana chose to wear the family heirloom on her special day.
The Spencer tiara, partly crafted from a wedding gift dating back to 1919, is currently in the possession of Diana's youngest brother, Charles, the 9th Earl Spencer.
Discussions are said to be underway to ensure the tiara is passed down to Princess Charlotte, despite the Earl having daughters of his own.
Sources revealed to Good To Know in 2021 that Prince William is fully aware of the Earl's family situation but has reached an agreement that the iconic tiara rightfully belongs to his firstborn daughter.
Another insider shared with the Australian magazine New Idea that Princess Charlotte is already familiar with the tiara through her knowledge of her grandmother Diana and is eager to one day try it on.
It is noted that Charlotte's middle name pays tribute to Princess Diana, further solidifying her connection to the beloved royal figure.
While Princess Charlotte may have to wait until her own wedding day to showcase the Spencer tiara, as per tradition, the anticipation and significance attached to this heirloom undoubtedly add to the young princess's understanding of her family's history and legacy.
