Princess Catherine Stuns in Queen Elizabeth’s Japanese Pearl Choker Necklace
Princess Catherine, also known as Kate, made a striking appearance at Queen Elizabeth's funeral by donning the late monarch's exquisite Japanese Pearl Choker Necklace.
The choice of wearing this significant piece was particularly poignant for the Princess of Wales, as she had previously worn it to Prince Philip's funeral in 2021.
Renowned jewellery expert Leslie Field revealed that the pearls used in crafting the necklace were sourced from the Queen's personal collection.
These pearls were believed to have been a gift from the Japanese government, likely obtained during the Queen's state visit to Japan in the 1970s.
The intricate design of the necklace was attributed to Geroude, with Field speculating that the clasp could potentially accommodate an extra strand of pearls.
Back in November 1982, Queen Elizabeth graciously lent this iconic choker to Princess Diana for a state visit hosted by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
Diana elegantly adorned the choker during a lavish banquet held at Hampton Court Palace, pairing it with the majestic Queen Mary's lover's knot tiara and a magnificent sapphire brooch gifted to her by the Queen Mother as a wedding present.
Fast forward to November 2017, Kate graced a party commemorating the diamond wedding anniversary of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh while wearing the same cherished necklace.
Subsequently, she also wore it at the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh in April 2021, maintaining a tradition of honoring the late royals through her attire.
In addition to the striking choker, the Princess of Wales complemented her ensemble with the Bahrain Powell drop earrings, another treasured possession of the late Queen.
These earrings were originally presented to Queen Elizabeth as a wedding gift in 1947.
Following the royal wedding, two of the Bahraini Powells were transformed into a new pair of earrings, featuring round diamond studs adorned with round and baguette-cut diamonds in a classic late 1940s style.
