Prince William Shaves Beard After Princess Charlotte’s Tears
In a heartfelt revelation, Prince William shared that he had to shave off his beard after it caused his daughter, Princess Charlotte, to burst into tears.
This candid moment came during the conclusion of his recent four-day tour in South Africa, where he expressed his deep affection for the country and his desire to return with his children—George, Charlotte, and Louis.
William recounted the touching family moment, explaining how Charlotte's reaction to his facial hair was so intense that he felt compelled to remove it.
“Well, Charlotte didn't like it the first time.
I got floods of tears, so I had to shave it off,” he said, adding that he later grew it back, reassuring her that everything would be okay.
The Prince of Wales also took the opportunity to reflect on his family's struggles over the past year.
He praised both his father, King Charles, and his wife, Kate Middleton, for their courage in the face of health challenges.
Describing the past year as “dreadful,” he admitted, “It's probably been the hardest year of my life.” Balancing personal challenges while maintaining royal duties has proven to be a significant struggle for him.
Earlier this year, King Charles faced health issues related to an enlarged prostate, requiring hospitalization for three nights.
Simultaneously, Kate underwent abdominal surgery and spent nearly two weeks in the same medical facility.
In February, Buckingham Palace disclosed that Charles was battling cancer, shortly followed by news of Kate's diagnosis, which remained under wraps until late March.
During this tumultuous time, William took a leave of absence to support his family.
However, he has recently resumed his royal engagements, making a notable appearance at the Earthshot Prize Awards in Cape Town.
This marked a significant return to public life for the prince, who has been navigating a challenging personal landscape.
In an emotional interview, William opened up about how the past eleven months have affected him.
“Honestly, it's been dreadful.
It's probably been the hardest year in my life,” he reiterated.
Despite the personal toll, he expressed immense pride in how both Kate and Charles have handled their respective health battles.
Kate, in her own statements, acknowledged the difficulties faced by the family, describing the last nine months as incredibly tough.
She noted how swiftly life can change and emphasized the importance of cherishing the simple things.
“This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life,” she shared.
Interestingly, some observers interpreted William's decision to grow a beard as a sign of him feeling more relaxed now that Kate's treatment has concluded.
However, William quickly refuted this notion, stating, “I couldn't be less relaxed this year.” Instead, he explained that he simply enjoys his work and aims to balance it with family time.
The prince revealed that Charlotte's tears were the catalyst for his initial shave, saying, “I got floods of tears, so I had to shave it off.” He humorously noted that he later convinced her that his beard would be just fine.
William first debuted his beard in a video message congratulating Team GB's athletes for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics but appeared clean-shaven shortly after at a church service.
As for Kate's journey, after undergoing chemotherapy, she expressed her eagerness to return to work after completing her treatment.
Meanwhile, King Charles continues to receive weekly treatment but remains active in his royal duties.
His recent trip to Australia and Samoa has been described as a much-needed tonic for the 75-year-old monarch.
Reflecting on his role as the Prince of Wales, William expressed mixed feelings.
“Do I like more responsibility?
No.
Do I like the freedom that I can build something like Earthshot?
Then yes,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of using his platform to make a positive impact in the world.
Finally, during his trip, Prince William proudly wore a bracelet made by Charlotte, affectionately dubbed the “papa bracelet.” He promised his daughter he would wear it throughout his engagements in South Africa, showcasing a sweet connection amidst the challenges his family has faced.
