Prince Harry Faces Backlash Over Mental Health Advice
Prince Harry found himself in hot water after suggesting that companies should prioritize giving their employees time for self-reflection during his recent virtual appearance for mental health startup BetterUp.
The Duke of Sussex, 38, participated in a panel discussion with BetterUp CEO Alexey Robichaux, tennis star Serena Williams, and his wife, Meghan Markle.
During the session, Harry emphasized the importance of allowing individuals to focus on their inner well-being, highlighting his own experience with burnout.
However, Harry's remarks did not sit well with a number of social media users, who criticized his advice as being out of touch with reality.
One Twitter user named Tanner questioned Harry's credibility, stating, “What the hell is he talking about?
He's never done a hard day's work in his life.”
Another user, Richard James, expressed skepticism, commenting, “Real people have to work for a living.
It's always me-me time with Prince Harry.”
The backlash continued with users questioning Harry's qualifications to speak on mental health and work-life balance.
One user pointed out the irony of receiving advice from someone who has not experienced the daily grind of a traditional job, remarking, “It's really difficult to take mental health advice from a 40-year-old who in the middle of a pandemic was complaining on Oprah that he only had his mom's millions to rely on because dad cut him off.”
Criticism also extended to Harry's immigration status in the U.S., with one Twitter user, Matthew Colkin, raising concerns about his past drug use and questioning his legal residency.
Colkin, claiming to be an immigration lawyer, suggested that Harry's admitted drug use could potentially bar him from entering the country if he were not a member of the royal family.
Meanwhile, amidst the controversy surrounding Harry, British TV personality Piers Morgan publicly came to the defense of U.S. comedian Joe Rogan, who had recently made disparaging remarks about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
In a column for the New York Post, Morgan praised Rogan's podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, for its diverse range of guests and opinions, emphasizing the importance of free speech and differing viewpoints.
Morgan also criticized the backlash against Rogan, particularly in light of Spotify's lucrative deal with Meghan and Harry, suggesting that the streaming platform should redirect the funds to support Rogan's podcast instead.
The royal couple had raised concerns about disinformation on Spotify, including content featured on shows like Rogan's.
As the debate continues over Harry's remarks on mental health and the ongoing scrutiny of public figures like Rogan, the intersection of celebrity influence, personal struggles, and societal expectations remains a topic of heated discussion among online commentators.
