Prince George to Miss Traditional Birthday Bell Ringing at Westminster Abbey
Prince George, the eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, is gearing up to celebrate his seventh birthday on the 22nd of July.
However, this year, there is one tradition that the young royal will unfortunately miss out on.
Typically, certain royal birthdays and anniversaries are commemorated by the ringing of the bells at Westminster Abbey.
This includes significant occasions for members of the royal family such as the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, their children, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their offspring.
Due to the ongoing challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the customary bell ringing at the Abbey has been temporarily suspended.
The resumption of this tradition is not anticipated until August, which means that Prince George will be unable to partake in this special ritual this year.
Similarly, Prince William and Kate's younger children, Princess Charlotte aged 5, and Prince Louis aged 2, also missed out on hearing the bells toll on their respective birthdays in May and April.
Westminster Abbey's official website indicates that the next royal figure slated to receive this prestigious honor will be the Princess Royal on her 70th birthday on the 15th of August.
Over the years, Westminster Abbey has been the backdrop for some of the most significant royal events in history.
These include the momentous Queen's Coronation in 1953, as well as the notable weddings of various royal couples such as Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 1947, Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong Jones in 1960, Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips in 1973, and Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011.
During the period of lockdown, members of the royal family have actively participated in Westminster Abbey's podcast series, known as Abbeycast.
Notable figures such as the Prince of Wales, the Princess Royal, and the Countess of Wessex have all contributed to the podcast, engaging with audiences during these challenging times.
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been residing at their Norfolk residence, Anmer Hall, alongside their children George, Charlotte, and Louis since the initiation of the UK lockdown back in March.
In light of the circumstances, George and Charlotte, who typically attend Thomas's Battersea School, have been receiving their education at home under the guidance of their parents.
