Prince Charles’ Emotional Departure from Prince Philip’s Bedside

Prince Charles was visibly moved as he left his father's bedside on Saturday, marking the first royal visit to Prince Philip in the hospital.

The emotional departure captured Charles seated in the front of his car, still donning his face mask, his gaze fixed out the window.

Arriving at King Edward VII's hospital in London around 3.20pm on Saturday afternoon, Charles spent approximately 30 minutes before departing shortly before 4pm.

The prince undertook a journey of about 100 miles from his residence in Highgrove, Gloucestershire, to central London for the visit, subsequently returning home.

An announcement on Thursday disclosed that Prince Philip is anticipated to stay in the hospital for further observation into the following week.

A source from the royal family mentioned that, following discussions with his physician, the Duke of Edinburgh is expected to remain hospitalized for monitoring and rest over the weekend and into the upcoming week.

The doctor is exercising caution, ensuring the Duke's well-being, who reportedly remains in high spirits.

A statement from Buckingham Palace released on Wednesday clarified that the Duke's admission is a precautionary step advised by his doctor after feeling unwell.

Prince Philip is expected to spend a few days in the hospital for observation and rest.

Notably, his arrival at the hospital was not an emergency and he walked in unaccompanied after traveling by car.

The hospital stay is purely precautionary, with no connection to Covid-19.

While Prince Philip receives medical care, Queen Elizabeth II remains at Windsor Castle, where the royal couple has been residing during lockdown.

On Thursday, she conducted her first official in-person engagement of the year by conferring Vice Admiral Sir Tony Johnston-Burt with the Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, RVO, recognizing his service.
