He admitted that he was feeling frustrated due to his exclusion from the rugby team, which likely contributed to his one-word greeting.

“When we first met, I just said hello,” he revealed, explaining that he didn't engage in much conversation because of his emotional state.

Fast forward to 2022, when Mike appeared on ITV's “I Am A Celebrity,” he reminisced about how he and Zara started as friends.

It seems that their relationship blossomed thanks to the shared interests of their families.

“William and Harry were big England fans at the time, so we met them a few times,” he explained, noting that he ended up meeting more of Zara's family than most people do when they start dating someone.

It wasn't exactly a prim and proper outing; instead, it turned into what he described as a “totally drunk date.” They kicked off their romance with a casual lunch that led to both of them enjoying a little too much to drink.

“We discovered we both liked to get smashed.

It was a good start,” he laughed.
