Meghan Markle’s Humiliating Experience at Dusseldorf Restaurant
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, faced an embarrassing moment when a waiter at a Dusseldorf restaurant completely ignored her, mistaking her for Prince Harry's assistant.
The incident occurred as the royal couple celebrated Prince Harry's 39th birthday with a dinner outing.
Meghan, 42, made a fashion statement in a £268 harbour shirt in red and white pinstripes from the California-inspired brand Doan, paired with white skinny jeans from Frame.
She completed her look with beige suede flat pumps embellished with a bow detailing from Mandolo Blanique.
The couple chose the venue I'm Golden and Kessel, located within the brewery Schumacher, for their birthday celebration.
During the evening, the owner Thea Ungerman and waiter Frank Wackers attended to the Duke and Duchess's table.
Interestingly, Frank, a 27-year-old waiter, admitted to not being well-versed in matters concerning the royal family.
Initially, he only identified Prince Harry and failed to recognize Meghan Markle, assuming she was part of the staff accompanying the royal couple.
The relaxed atmosphere at the restaurant allowed the group to enjoy Schumacher beer, the same brand served at the Invictus Games.
The staff members were thrilled to have such distinguished guests dining at their establishment.
Thea Ungerman, expressing her excitement, mentioned having watched Prince Harry's speech at the Invictus Games and was starstruck by his presence at her restaurant.
Prince Harry's amiable demeanor left a lasting impression on the staff, with Mr. Weckers, who has worked at the restaurant for 38 years, recounting a heartwarming interaction where Harry gave him a hug.
The couple graciously posed for photographs with the restaurant owner and staff, capturing the jovial atmosphere of the evening.
During the meal, Prince Harry was presented with a birthday cake and enjoyed traditional German dishes such as wiener schnitzel, pork knuckle, and sausage, accompanied by roast and mashed potatoes.
In contrast, Meghan appeared to focus on a salad and did not consume the protein dishes ordered for the table.
Despite her selective eating habits, the Duchess did not finish her meal, leaving some food uneaten.
At the conclusion of the evening, Prince Harry settled the bill and generously tipped the staff.
The owner of the restaurant shared insights into the tipping culture, highlighting that a typical tip for a €24 bill would range between €26 to €27 for an average citizen.
However, Prince Harry's substantial tip was considered generous but not excessive, demonstrating his appreciation for the service provided.
In summary, Meghan Markle's experience at the Dusseldorf restaurant showcased a mix of amusing misunderstandings, warm interactions, and culinary preferences.
The royal couple's visit left a positive impression on the staff, with Prince Harry's kind gestures and generous tip adding to the memorable birthday celebration.
