Meghan Markle Furious After Piers Morgan Cleared by Ofcom
Meghan Markle is reportedly fuming over the recent decision by Ofcom to clear Piers Morgan of her complaint against him.
According to royal expert Angela Levin, the Duchess of Sussex is said to be seething after the regulatory body ruled in favor of the former Good Morning Britain host, stating that he was entitled to express his opinions about her during a heated debate.
In the aftermath of the ruling, Piers Morgan claimed that Meghan had written to his ITV boss Dame Carolyn McCall, demanding his dismissal in a desperate attempt to have him fired.
Despite her efforts, Meghan's pleas fell on deaf ears as Piers emerged victorious in the complaint filed against him.
Piers Morgan's departure from Good Morning Britain earlier this year came after he openly questioned the veracity of Meghan's claims during her interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Meghan had alleged that she was disregarded when she raised concerns about her mental health and also made accusations of racism prior to the birth of her son, Archie – assertions that Piers publicly doubted.
Although Ofcom acknowledged receiving an official complaint from Meghan regarding Morgan's remarks, the regulatory body ultimately determined that while his comments were potentially harmful and offensive, they did not breach the broadcasting code.
Royal biographer Angela Levin expressed doubt that Meghan would accept the verdict gracefully, given her strong emphasis on compassion and understanding.
She speculated that Meghan might resort to legal action to contest the ruling, unable to tolerate any insinuation that she was being untruthful.
Piers Morgan's skepticism toward Meghan's disclosures, particularly regarding her struggles with mental health and suicidal thoughts, was met with further criticism.
Despite this, Ofcom's assessment concluded that the broadcast in question provided sufficient challenge and context to mitigate any potential harm caused by the sensitive subject matter.
An Ofcom spokesperson emphasized the delicate balance struck in their decision, recognizing the contentious nature of Morgan's comments while upholding the principle of freedom of expression.
The regulatory body highlighted the importance of robust debate in the public interest, albeit urging broadcasters like ITV to exercise greater caution when addressing topics related to mental health and suicide in the future.
In response to the ruling, Piers Morgan hailed it as a triumph for free speech, asserting his right to question the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's claims made during the Oprah Winfrey interview.
He took to Twitter to celebrate what he deemed a victory over what he referred to as “Princess Pinocchio's” falsehoods.
The Ofcom ruling marked a significant milestone, with the GMB episode featuring Piers Morgan's contentious remarks ranking as the most complained-about TV moment in the watchdog's history.
Despite the public outcry and polarizing opinions surrounding the case, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have chosen to remain silent on the outcome of the investigation.
