Megan Markle’s Phone Call Mix-Up: Mistaken for Megan Fox
In a twist of fate that's hard to believe, Meghan Markle once found herself mistaken for actress Megan Fox during a phone call.
This amusing anecdote resurfaced recently in an interview with Shannon Keith, an animal rights attorney and the director of the Beagle Freedom Project.
The mix-up occurred when Markle reached out to discuss adopting a beagle named Mamma Mia from an LA dog rescue center.
During her chat with Keith, Markle introduced herself simply as “Megan,” which left Keith pondering whether she was actually speaking to the Hollywood star.
In her conversation with the LA Times back in August, Keith recounted how their 30-minute discussion had her wondering if she was indeed on the line with Fox.
The story has gained fresh attention thanks to an article in Tatler by journalist Ben Whittakam, titled “What do Americans really think of the Sussexes.”
Whittakam pointed out that while Meghan is a household name in the UK, that level of recognition hasn't fully translated to the American public.
Keith's experience illustrates this point perfectly.
She recalled receiving a call from an unknown number, only to hear, “Hey Shannon, this is Megan.” After their lengthy conversation, she found herself questioning, “Is this Megan Fox?”
The call was about the adoption of Mamma Mia, a seven-year-old beagle who now enjoys life with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at their lavish Montecito mansion.
Meghan and Prince Harry's home, valued at $14 million, is also shared with their children, Archie and Lilibet, along with their other pets, including another beagle named Guy and a Labrador named Pula.
The family even keeps chickens that were rescued from a factory farm.
In recounting the adoption, Keith remembered Meghan enthusiastically holding Mia and expressing her desire to adopt older dogs rather than a puppy.
This decision reflects Meghan's commitment to helping animals in need, aligning perfectly with her values.
Long before she met Prince Harry, Meghan had her own heartwarming story about adopting a puppy.
On her former blog, The Tig, she reminisced about how Ellen DeGeneres encouraged her to take home a frisky little pup.
Meghan described how, during a chance meeting with Ellen, the simple phrase “take him home” changed her life forever.
At the time, Meghan was searching for her first dog to keep her company while filming in Toronto.
She was acutely aware of the high number of dogs needing homes in Los Angeles County, which has one of the highest euthanasia rates in the country.
For her, adopting a rescue dog was a no-brainer.
When Ellen first saw Meghan with the tiny puppy, she asked if he was hers.
Meghan confirmed, saying, “I think I call him Bogart.” Ellen, with her trademark confidence, told Meghan to take him home.
Little did Meghan know that this decision would lead to a profound change in her life.
Interestingly, despite Meghan's detailed recollection of the event, Ellen later admitted that she didn't remember the encounter at all.
She joked about it, saying, “I don't even remember the story actually, but obviously she does, and she does whatever I tell her to do.” Ellen playfully added, “So Meghan, if you're watching, I have something else to tell you.
Invite me to the wedding.”
This lighthearted mix-up and the heartwarming stories of pet adoption highlight Meghan Markle's genuine connection with animals and her commitment to rescue efforts.
As she continues her journey in America, these anecdotes serve as a reminder that even royals can have relatable moments that resonate with everyday people.
