King Charles Gets Emotional Over Queen Camilla’s Documentary
In a heartfelt moment at Buckingham Palace, King Charles opened up about an emotional experience that left him in tears.
Just a day before his 76th birthday, he revealed that he was deeply moved by a documentary featuring Queen Camilla.
The film, titled “Her Majesty the Queen Behind Closed Doors,” premiered on ITV1 on November 11 and highlights Camilla's dedication to advocating for victims of domestic violence—a cause close to her heart.
During a reception celebrating the film and the work of the film and TV charity, Charles spoke candidly with guests about the poignant 90-minute documentary.
He expressed admiration for Camilla's commitment to addressing domestic abuse, stating, “I am very proud of it.
It reduced me to tears.”
His emotional response resonated with many, showcasing the profound impact the documentary had on him.
Actor Damien Lewis, who also attended the event, shared his thoughts on the film with the King.
“It's very moving, isn't it?”
he remarked, prompting Charles to acknowledge the film's potential recognition by BAFTA, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
The King's admiration for the documentary was evident as he reminisced about watching a preview in Scotland, which had similarly touched him.
In a lighter exchange, Lewis jokingly teased Charles about his distant familial connection to Henry VIII, a playful jab that the King took in stride.
He complimented Lewis's performance in the BBC series “Wolf Hall,” saying, “You are fantastic in it.
Please give your fellow actors my regards.”
Despite the humor, it's worth noting that Charles is indeed related to Henry VIII, albeit quite distantly.
While Camilla joined Charles at the reception, she did not accompany him later that evening for the global premiere of “Gladiator 2.”
The Queen has been gradually resuming royal duties after recovering from a chest infection that had sidelined her during recent remembrance events.
At the reception, she candidly shared her struggles from the previous week, describing how she felt “absolutely rotten” but was now on the mend.
The film and TV charity, which celebrated its centenary this year, aims to support the well-being of those working behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.
Charles took over the patronage from his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, who held the role for several decades until her passing in 2022.
The event saw other royals in attendance, including Prince Edward and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
In another engaging moment, King Charles sought recommendations for television shows from actor Joseph Fiennes.
When Fiennes suggested box sets, Charles humorously noted the mixed quality of such shows, expressing the challenge of finding good content among the vast options available.
This light-hearted interaction highlighted the King's relatable side amid his royal responsibilities.
Shifting gears, the narrative turned to a more somber topic regarding the late Queen's passing.
It was revealed that King Charles made the difficult decision not to allow Meghan Markle to travel to Balmoral on the day of the Queen's death.
According to royal author Rob Jobson, this decision stemmed from a phone call between Charles and Prince Harry, where the King expressed his wish for Meghan to remain in London.
Harry had flown separately to Scotland, arriving just before 8 PM, after a disagreement about Meghan's attendance.
He recounted in his memoir, “Spare,” that his father welcomed him but did not want Meghan there, citing concerns over too many people being present.
Despite the tension, it was ultimately Harry's choice to travel alone to be with his family.
Interestingly, Kate Middleton's absence from Balmoral also raised eyebrows.
Although she had a strong bond with the Queen, it was later clarified that Kate chose to stay back to support her children on their first day at a new school.
This decision underscored the importance of family commitments, even during significant royal moments.
As King Charles prepared for his birthday celebrations, he remained busy with royal duties.
On the eve of his birthday, he opened two coronation food hubs in London and virtually in Knowsley, aimed at addressing food waste and supporting local communities.
Young schoolchildren presented him with heartfelt birthday cards, adding a personal touch to the day.
Looking ahead, King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to make a notable appearance at the 97th Royal Variety Performance at London's Royal Albert Hall.
This event marks an important occasion for the royal couple, as Charles attends in his capacity as the new patron of the Royal Variety Charity.
The anticipation surrounding their attendance adds to the festive spirit of the winter season.
