Katy Perry Offered Overnight Stay at Windsor Castle, Not Meghan
Katy Perry has been extended an invitation for an overnight stay at Windsor Castle, leaving Meghan Markle out of the royal accommodations.
The pop star reportedly accepted the offer to perform at a concert following the coronation service at Westminster Abbey, aiming to showcase her role as an ambassador for the British Asian Trust, a position granted by the King in 2020.
Joining a lineup of esteemed artists such as Take That, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, Sir Bryn Terfel, Freya Rydings, and Alexis F. French, Perry's connection with the King dates back to their initial encounter at a Mumbai event in 2019 when he held the title of Prince of Wales.
This meeting left a lasting impression on both parties, marked by a rare selfie request from the King.
The details of this unique photo opportunity were disclosed by the King's former aide, Scott Forreston Wood, who served as Deputy Private Secretary to Charles.
Wood shared how the King's children expressed admiration for Katy Perry's music, prompting the monarch to initiate the impromptu snapshot with his aide.
Katy Perry's involvement in the Heads Together mental health campaign alongside Prince William and Prince Harry further solidified her ties with the royal family.
Following the Sussexes' relocation to Montecito, where they now reside near Perry and her fiancé Orlando Bloom, the singer's previous critique of Meghan's wedding attire resurfaced.
Expressing her candid opinion on Meghan's wedding dress fitting in 2018, Perry remarked that an additional adjustment was warranted while praising Kate Middleton's sartorial choices.
This critique evidently did not sit well with Meghan, setting the stage for potential tension at Windsor Castle where both Catherine and Katy are expected to be present, much to Meghan's chagrin.
Despite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's expressed desire to reside within the castle grounds post-wedding, the Queen deemed such a request inappropriate, redirecting them to Frogmore Cottage nearby.
Windsor Castle, a historic residence spanning centuries, currently houses members of the royal family including Prince William, Catherine, Prince Andrew, and Sarah Ferguson.
The Queen's decision to allocate Frogmore Cottage to Harry and Meghan as a wedding gift was detailed in royal author Katie Nicholl's book, “The New Royals.”
Quoting the late Lady Elizabeth Anton, Nicholl highlighted the significance of the Queen's gesture and her hope for the couple to honor her generosity.
Frogmore Cottage emerged as the chosen abode amidst several other Windsor properties considered for the Sussexes, with Adelaide Cottage now serving as the residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales following their move from London.
