John Cena Throws Shade at Meghan Markle on The Late Show
In a recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, John Cena made headlines with his candid remarks about Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.
The retired WWE superstar was promoting his upcoming projects but didn't hold back when asked if he would consider working with Markle again.
During the show, Cena discussed his excitement about collaborating with pop sensation Dua Lipa.
He expressed a strong desire to star in a buddy cop film alongside her, jokingly stating, “Man, I'd love to do like a buddy cop movie with her.” Colbert took the opportunity to present Cena with a mock poster for a fictional film titled “Beauty and the Brawn,” playfully suggesting that Cena would be the beauty in this pairing.
Cena chuckled at the idea, noting that he felt the audience wasn't quite sold on the concept.
The conversation took a turn as Cena reminisced about their time filming “Argyle” before the blockbuster “Barbie.”
He admitted to feeling a bit nervous sharing the screen with both Lipa and Henry Cavill due to their striking looks.
However, he praised Lipa for her authenticity, highlighting how she openly shared her own performance anxieties.
Cena and Lipa previously joined forces in “Barbie,” where they portrayed Merman Barbie and Mermaid Barbie, respectively.
Their chemistry seems to have translated well into their next project, “Argyle,” set to release in 2024.
In this film, Cena plays Argyle's best friend, while Lipa takes on the role of his adversary.
As the interview progressed, Colbert pivoted to ask Cena about the possibility of working with Meghan Markle, especially with rumors swirling that she might make a cameo in the new season of “Suits.”
Cena's response was filled with laughter, and he quickly dismissed the notion.
“I'm not a fan of Suits,” he remarked, adding that Markle was merely a supporting actress in the show.
He further elaborated that if “Suits” aimed to draw in viewers, it needed to innovate its characters rather than rely on past stars.
His dismissal of Markle was blunt, stating, “I wouldn't want to work with Meghan.
Well, I heard she's a diva.”
This comment certainly raised eyebrows, especially given Markle's previous high-profile status.
Meanwhile, news outlets like Pop Culture reported on developments regarding a new spin-off of “Suits,” dubbed “Suits LA.”
However, fans should temper their expectations, as it appears neither Markle nor any of the original cast members will be returning.
According to Deadline, Victoria Mahoney is set to direct the pilot for “Suits LA,” which is reportedly nearing a pilot order at NBC.
This new series will not feature the original cast but will take place in the same universe, introducing all-new characters in a different city.
Production for the pilot episode is anticipated to kick off in March in Vancouver, with the original creator Aaron Korsch serving as executive producer alongside other notable names from the original series.
While fans may be disappointed that their beloved characters won't be regulars, there remains a glimmer of hope for guest appearances down the line.
Despite earlier speculation about Markle's agency negotiating with NBCUniversal, it seems those rumors were unfounded.
Reports suggest that any such discussions were merely PR chatter from Markle's camp, leaving fans with more questions than answers about her future in acting.
