Goodbye Montecito: Harry and Meghan’s Unexpected Move to Escape Disaster
Less than three years since settling into their $22 million Californian compound, former frontline royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are preparing for a significant change.
The couple, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, currently reside in an $11.2 million mansion in Montecito, California.
However, recent reports suggest that they are considering purchasing another estate just a few miles away.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may soon bid farewell to their $14 million mansion as they set their sights on residing in the exclusive California private community of Hope Ranch.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have apparently realized that their current sprawling home does not adequately meet their needs as a family of four.
It remains unclear whether the mansion is too large or too small for them.
Situated in Santa Barbara County, approximately 10 miles from Montecito, Hope Ranch is home to only 2,000 residents and appeals to individuals who appreciate equestrian activities and a relaxed, luxurious lifestyle, according to the Randy Solekian Estate Group.
Properties in the area range from $2.3 million to $33.95 million, with a median price of $4.8 million.
While rumors suggest that Meghan and Harry may have already acquired a property in the area, no official confirmation has been made.
Speculation about their potential move arose following reports of criminal activity targeting the Montecito neighborhood, prompting the Duke and Duchess to enhance their security measures.
Notably, a group resembling a bling ring style theft gang had reportedly identified the area as a target.
Among the other prominent figures residing in the vicinity are Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, and Ellen DeGeneres.
In response to the increased criminal threats, local law enforcement installed a series of high-tech cameras capable of scanning passing vehicles' license plates.
Police reassured residents that the camera system does not utilize facial recognition technology, and all data collected will be deleted every 30 days, unless required for an ongoing investigation.
Consequently, Meghan and Harry have enlisted the services of a new bodyguard, Christopher Sanchez, a former U.S. Secret Service agent with experience protecting former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
The couple's decision to consider relocating is also influenced by their established support network in California, where their team of Hollywood agents, public relations professionals, and business managers are based.
Meghan enjoys a circle of friends in the region, including her mother Doria.
The Montecito mansion, spanning 18,000 square feet on five acres of land, features nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a wine cellar, library, spa, gym, arcade, movie theater, and a five-car garage.
Reflecting on their initial attraction to the property, Meghan shared with The Cut that she and Harry were captivated by the Montecito residence.
The house consistently appeared in their online searches, evoking feelings of joy, calmness, and freedom upon entering.
Meghan described the home as a place of healing, where one can exhale and experience a sense of tranquility.
