The Duchess of Cambridge surprised everyone with a secret piano performance at Westminster Abbey, honoring a man who lost his grandfather during the pandemic.

Tom Walker, the songwriter behind the piece she played, shared his experience of collaborating with the Duchess for the first time in a royal setting.

Mr. Walker disclosed to Mirror Online that Kate was a bit nervous during the initial rehearsal, as it had been a while since she had played alongside another musician.

Despite the nerves, she impressed everyone by playing the song around nine times flawlessly during the secretive practice session.

Describing his experience working with Kate, Mr. Walker mentioned the pleasant and down-to-earth nature of the Duchess.

He highlighted how Kate, though owning a piano at home, had to adapt to a different instrument rented for the performance.

The musician praised her for being approachable, chilled out, and lovely throughout their collaboration behind the scenes.

Mr. Walker narrated how Kate reached out to him after witnessing his performance at a charity event where he sang his original song, “Leave a Light on Live.”

Following their interaction, Kate expressed interest in having him perform at the carol service.

However, upon hearing Mr. Walker’s Christmas song, she was captivated and requested him to include it in the program.

Surprisingly, a week later, Kate’s team contacted Mr. Walker again, expressing her desire to play the piano part herself, a skill he was unaware of.

Expressing his astonishment at Kate’s piano-playing abilities, Mr. Walker enthusiastically agreed to the idea of her involvement in the performance.

They arranged a secretive rehearsal session to prepare for the event, keeping the details under wraps even from the studio staff.

The entire process unfolded discreetly, adding an element of surprise and excitement to the upcoming performance at the Royal Carols, Together at Christmas event.
