Cedric the Entertainer Takes a Stand Against Netflix Docuseries Heart of Invictus
The host of the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, Cedric the Entertainer, made headlines with his strong stance against the Netflix docuseries Heart of Invictus, featuring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Prior to the highly anticipated Golden Globe ceremony set for January 8th, 2023, Cedric voiced his vehement disapproval of the series and its underlying motives.
Renowned for his comedic talent, Cedric did not hold back as he criticized the docuseries, labeling it as a blatant ploy to elicit sympathy from both the general public and critics.
Expressing his discontent during a press conference, Cedric emphasized his belief that Heart of Invictus, which showcases the narratives of wounded veterans participating in the Invictus Games, was undeserving of a nomination for the prestigious Golden Globe Awards.
His dissatisfaction stemmed from viewing the initial episode of the series, which premiered on Netflix in November 2022.
Cedric was taken aback by what he perceived as Meghan Markle's portrayal of herself as a victim of the royal family and the media.
In Cedric's eyes, Meghan Markle's depiction in the series primarily consisted of a litany of grievances about the challenges she faced, such as bullying, harassment, her choice to depart the country, suicidal thoughts, experiences of racial discrimination, and more.
He felt that her representation overshadowed the genuine heroes of the series – the veterans who had endured significant losses in terms of limbs, eyesight, hearing, mental health, family, careers, dignity, and hope.
Cedric accused Meghan of exploiting these veterans to showcase her supposed compassion and generosity, a move he deemed as insincere.
Not stopping at criticizing Meghan, Cedric also called out Prince Harry for supporting what he perceived as Meghan's self-centered agenda.
He believed that Prince Harry had forsaken his responsibilities as a prince, a soldier, a leader, and a role model, instead succumbing to being a puppet, a traitor, a coward, and a sellout.
According to Cedric, Prince Harry had abandoned his duty, honor, heritage, and legacy, a betrayal that did not go unnoticed.
Driven by his outrage, Cedric took matters into his own hands by disclosing that he had personally vetoed Heart of Invictus from consideration for the Golden Globes nominations.
He indicated that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the body responsible for the awards, shared his sentiments, concurring that the series lacked the merit for recognition.
For Cedric, the essence of the Golden Globes lay in honoring artistic brilliance, innovative vision, and societal influence – qualities he believed Heart of Invictus sorely lacked.
In a parting statement, Cedric extended his profound admiration for the veterans who had participated in the Invictus Games, applauding their bravery and resilience.
He wished them well in their pursuit of peace and happiness.
Promising an evening filled with humor, entertainment, and inspiration as the host of the Golden Globes, Cedric tantalized the audience with hints of surprises awaiting them.
Expressing his privilege in being part of Hollywood's most esteemed and glamorous event, he pledged to deliver a show that would captivate and thrill all in attendance.
