Breaking Royal Traditions: Princess Beatrice’s Husband Shakes Things Up
In an unexpected twist within the British royal family, Princess Beatrice's husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, has broken with tradition—thanks in part to Meghan Markle.
The couple exchanged vows in a quaint ceremony in July 2020, but their journey into royal life was anything but conventional.
Tradition runs deep in the royal family; certain rituals are upheld with great reverence.
One such custom is the exclusive nature of family gatherings, particularly during the festive season.
However, Edoardo has found himself bending these long-held rules, a shift that can be traced back to the influence of Meghan Markle.
Prior to their wedding, Edoardo had the unique opportunity to witness one of the royal family's cherished traditions: Christmas morning at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.
Typically, only official family members receive invitations to such events, and partners usually must wait until they tie the knot to join the festivities.
But in a rare move, Edoardo was welcomed into the fold before the couple even said “I do.”
This break from convention echoes a similar moment in 2017 when Prince Harry invited Meghan to spend Christmas with the royals before their marriage.
At that time, she celebrated with the family while her own relatives were across the pond in the U.S.
This precedent seems to have inspired Beatrice to extend the same courtesy to Edoardo, allowing him to partake in the royal Christmas celebrations.
In stark contrast, other royal partners like Kate Middleton and Mike Tindall had to wait until after their respective weddings to join the holiday gatherings.
Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal commentator, pointed out that Kate wasn't invited to Sandringham until after her engagement to William.
Similarly, Mike Tindall faced the same fate after becoming engaged to Zara Phillips.
The monarchy often leans heavily on established traditions, but it also adapts and evolves over time.
In this case, Edoardo's early inclusion in royal events signifies a shift that reflects more modern values within the family.
Princess Beatrice and Edoardo said their vows on July 17, 2020, at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Their intimate ceremony was graced by the presence of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, making it a truly memorable occasion.
In a heartfelt nod to her grandmother, Beatrice chose to wear a vintage gown by designer Norman Hartnell, which had been lent to her by Queen Elizabeth II.
This choice not only honored her family legacy but also added a personal touch to the royal wedding.
