Archwell Foundation Joins Forces to Redefine Masculinity

The Archwell Foundation, established by and , has recently announced its collaboration with Equimundo's Global Boyhood Initiative, a group dedicated to improving boyhood.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are working towards redefining masculinity by promoting healthy emotional expression, positive connections, advocating for equality, and breaking free from gender stereotypes.

The initiative aims to challenge the notion of “boys will be boys,” considering it problematic.

According to them, gender is not a fixed concept but rather a fluid and evolving idea with various expressions of masculinity.

A recent report titled “The State of UK Boys” by the Global Boyhood Initiative sheds light on how institutions and adults play a significant role in shaping masculinity from an early age.

The report emphasizes that gender roles are imposed on children even before birth and are often enforced within households.

To address this, a curriculum challenging gender norms and stereotypes is being piloted in primary schools in London.

The goal is to incorporate it into relationships and s– education classes nationwide, encouraging children aged 7 to 11 to embrace equitable and non-violent attitudes.

Maggie Blythe, leading the National Police Chiefs Council's efforts against violence towards women and girls, advocates for teaching children about boundaries, online safety, and toxic influences at a young age to prevent future predatory behavior.

However, Conservative MP Miriam Cates has criticized the Global Boyhood Initiative, expressing concerns about training young children as agents for change, which she perceives as indoctrination.

In November 2022, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their partnership with Equimundo's Global Boyhood Initiative.

Together, they have developed a guide to promote gender equity by fostering positive masculinity in boys and men.

The Archwell Foundation highlighted Equimundo's work in promoting healthy masculinity from an early age and emphasized the detrimental effects of labeling individuals on societal treatment of genders.

The impact report released earlier this year by Archwell revealed that 3,673 individuals accessed their resource guide, “Embracing Positive Masculinity,” developed in collaboration with Equimundo.

It is important to note that while Archwell is involved in promoting gender equity, they are not directly engaged in the curriculum program devised by the Global Boyhood Initiative.
