Archie and Lilibet’s Royal Titles at Risk Amidst Prince Harry’s Departure

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, aged 2, and his little sister Lilibet Lily Diana Mountbatten-Windsor are currently positioned in the line of succession following their father Prince Harry.

However, with Harry's decision to step away from royal duties, questions arise whether the Queen might consider removing her grandson and his children from the line of succession.

The young siblings are being raised in the United States by their parents, Prince Harry, 37, and Meghan Markle, 41.

Lilibet, born on June 4, was only recently added to the official line of succession on the royal family's website.

Despite renouncing their roles within the royal family last year, Prince Harry retains his position as the 6th in line to the British throne.

Meanwhile, Archie holds the 7th spot, with Lilibet following closely behind at 8th.

The update regarding Lilibet's succession status was shared by journalist and Sussex supporter Omid Scobie on Monday, emphasizing her new position in the line of royalty.

Following their decision to become financially independent from the monarchy after stepping down as senior royals, Harry and Meghan have faced criticism for certain actions that have led some to question the validity of their royal titles.

While the couple agreed not to utilize their HRH styles in connection with their work since spring 2020, recent events have sparked debates over their royal standing.

Meghan's publication of a children's book under her Duchess of Sussex title and the announcement of Harry's upcoming memoir as the Duke of Sussex have raised eyebrows among critics.

Despite speculations surrounding the potential removal of Prince Harry and his heirs from the line of succession, constitutional expert Ian McMarthan has clarified that such a decision lies solely within the jurisdiction of Parliament.

McMarthan explained that only through an Act of Parliament can alterations be made to the existing line of succession.

Even with Prince Charles's purported intentions to streamline the monarchy upon his ascension to the throne, any modifications to the line of succession require parliamentary approval.

While neither the Queen nor Prince Charles possess the authority to amend the line of succession, they do hold the power to revoke royal titles at their discretion.

McMarthan emphasized that both the current monarch and the future king maintain the prerogative to strip individuals of their royal titles and peerages.

Consequently, Prince Harry could potentially undergo a transformation from HRH Prince Henry, Duke of Sussex, to an ordinary Mr. Henry Charles Albert David Mountbatten-Windsor.

In a separate development, royal experts predict that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may eventually return to the UK when they realize their diminishing relevance within the royal circle.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield suggested that the Sussexes might seek opportunities to reestablish their presence, particularly following their controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Schofield expressed doubts about the couple's thorough consideration of the repercussions stemming from their public disclosures.
