A Portrait of Resilience: Kate Middleton’s Tribute to the Pandemic
A new portrait of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has been unveiled, coinciding with the release of a compelling book that reflects on the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
This initiative, in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, aims to capture the essence of a year marked by unprecedented trials and triumphs.
The book, aptly titled “Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020,” features a collection of 100 poignant images that depict the impact of the pandemic across the UK.
Launched last year, the Hold Still project invited individuals from all walks of life to submit their own photographic portraits taken during the initial lockdown.
The response was overwhelming, with over 31,000 submissions pouring in from across the nation.
From this vast pool of creativity, a select group of 100 portraits was chosen, each telling its own unique story.
These images were first showcased in a digital exhibition before making their way to various locations throughout the UK, allowing communities to engage with the art and memories captured during such a turbulent time.
The book not only serves as a visual archive but also aims to support mental health initiatives.
Proceeds from its sales will benefit the charity MIND and the National Portrait Gallery, emphasizing the importance of mental well-being amid ongoing challenges.
Kate Middleton, a mother of three, expressed her desire to create a lasting legacy that honors the collective resilience displayed by the nation during lockdown.
Her vision was to celebrate the NHS and recognize the everyday heroes who emerged in response to the crisis.
In her heartfelt introduction, Kate reflects on the myriad experiences people faced during the pandemic.
