Royal Joy: King Charles and His Grandfatherly Love
In a heartwarming revelation, King Charles has opened up about the profound joy that being a grandfather brings him, especially with the arrival of his first granddaughter, Princess Charlotte, in 2015.
During a visit to Poundberry, a model town development near Dorchester, the then Prince of Wales expressed his delight to reporters.
He beamed with pride, sharing, “I was hoping for a girl,” as he celebrated the birth of Charlotte.
Days after her birth, Charles couldn't hide his excitement.
“She is beautiful,” he said, reflecting on his hopes for a granddaughter who could look after him in his old age.
This candid admission showcased the softer side of the royal, revealing just how much he cherishes his family.
At 73, King Charles is a doting grandfather to five grandchildren, including Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, along with Archie and Lilibet.
His wife, Queen Consort Camilla, adds another layer to this family dynamic, bringing her own five grandchildren into the mix.
Together, they boast a delightful clan of ten grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
Camilla offered a glimpse into Charles's playful side during a BBC documentary titled “Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70.”
She described him as a grandfather who gets down on his knees to crawl around with the kids for hours, making funny noises and sharing laughs.
It's clear that this royal couple knows how to keep the spirit of childhood alive within their family.
“My grandchildren adore him, absolutely adore him,” Camilla shared, emphasizing the bond they all share.
She added a charming detail about Charles reading Harry Potter to them, complete with different voices that captivate their imaginations.
It's no wonder that the kids appreciate their grandfather's storytelling talents.
Prince William also chimed in during the same documentary, calling his father a “brilliant grandfather.” However, he expressed a desire for Charles to spend more time with his grandchildren.
William noted that balancing royal duties with family time can be challenging but is something he hopes to improve.
Reflecting on his father's schedule, William stated, “It's something I am working more heavily on.” He acknowledged that while Charles has the time to be a granddad, he wishes for more opportunities for them to bond.
The prince believes that now, as his father turns 70, it's an ideal moment for him to focus on family.
William shared his concerns about ensuring that Charles remains healthy and active for years to come.
