Zara Tindall Reflects on Princess Anne’s Bold Decision to Skip Royal Titles
In a recent interview, Zara Tindall opened up about her mother, Princess Anne's, choice not to grant royal titles to her children.
Unlike her cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, Zara and her brother Peter hold no royal titles, and they seem to be quite content with that.
The conversation took place during a podcast hosted by former rugby player Rob Burrow, where Zara shared her thoughts on her upbringing and family dynamics.
Zara, who is a mother of three, was initially taken aback when asked what advice she would give her younger self.
However, she quickly found her footing and expressed gratitude for the way her mother approached their royal status.
“I was very lucky that my mother didn't give us any titles,” she said, emphasizing how much she values the freedom that came with it.
This decision allowed her and Peter to forge their own paths without the pressures typically associated with royal duties.
Living at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, the Tindall family enjoys a lifestyle that blends royal heritage with normalcy.
Zara highlighted the importance of having a strong work ethic, something she believes was instilled in her by Princess Anne.
She hopes to pass these values down to her own children, just as her mother did for her and Peter.
Reflecting on her childhood, Zara noted that she didn't truly appreciate the benefits of growing up without royal obligations until she became a parent herself.
“You don't really appreciate it until you get older and have kids,” she remarked, hinting at the unique experiences she and her brother had while growing up.
Princess Anne made a significant decision back in 1977 when she chose not to bestow HRH titles on her children, Peter and Zara.
Alongside her then-husband, Captain Mark Phillips, Anne aimed to provide them with as normal a childhood as possible, away from the public eye and its scrutiny.
This choice has been a topic of discussion over the years, with many praising her for prioritizing her children's well-being over tradition.
In a 2020 interview with Vanity Fair, Princess Anne reiterated her stance on titles, suggesting that many would agree there are downsides to having them.
“I think that was probably the right thing to do,” she said, reflecting on her decision with a sense of pride.
