Monarch Returns to Duty Amid Health Concerns

In a significant moment for the British monarchy, the Queen made her first official appearance since the Covid-19 pandemic began to shake up royal engagements.

On Tuesday morning, she conducted two virtual audiences from her residence in Berkshire, marking her return to public duties at Windsor Castle.

During these digital meetings, the Queen welcomed Estonia’s new ambassador, Vilja Lubi, who connected with her via video link from Buckingham Palace.

Lubi not only presented his own letter of credence but also the letters of recall for his predecessor.

He was joined in this remote encounter by Maja Jajanti, another representative from Estonia, highlighting the importance of diplomatic relations even in a virtual setting.

The second virtual audience had a similar format.

Spain’s new ambassador, José Pascual Marco Martínez, also took part in the video call, presenting his letters to the monarch.

This return to work comes after the Queen’s brief respite following her trip to Sandringham, where she likely enjoyed some much-needed downtime.

Dressed in a vibrant floral-patterned gown, the Queen accessorized her look with her signature pearl necklace and a sparkling diamond brooch.

Her demeanor was upbeat, and she appeared to be in good health as she smiled throughout both engagements, reassuring those watching.

However, the backdrop of her return is tinged with concern.

Just days earlier, reports surfaced that her son, Prince Charles, had tested positive for Covid-19.

The Prince of Wales had met with the Queen shortly before his diagnosis, raising questions about her potential exposure to the virus.

Despite these worries, a royal source indicated that the Queen’s health was under close observation.

Fortunately, she showed no symptoms of the virus, which is a relief for the royal family and the public alike.

Nevertheless, the palace has opted to maintain privacy regarding whether the Queen herself has undergone testing for Covid-19.
