The Princess of Wales radiated elegance in a custom-made emerald coat by Alexander McQueen as she kicked off her Shaping Us campaign in Leeds today.

Pairing the coat with £1,280 brown knee-high boots from Jonvito Rossi and a cream dress, she engaged in two events in Leeds focusing on the significance of early childhood years, the central theme of her new campaign film.

Kate’s first stop was Kirkgate Market, where she gracefully brushed off a wolf whistle from a bystander and joyfully interacted with enthusiastic Royal fans who eagerly awaited a glimpse of her.

Later, she made her way to the University of Leeds to participate in a lecture on Psychological Approaches to Understanding and Supporting Children’s Learning, delving into topics such as children’s learning and development, including attachment theory.

Engaging with market vendors with decades of experience and members of the public, Kate discussed their reactions to the film, which premiered at a BAFTA event.

The Shaping Us short film emphasizes how infants and children evolve based on their earliest encounters.

Depicting the growth of a young girl from birth to age five through a 90-second claymation film, it illustrates the impact of interactions and environment on development, set to premiere in cinemas starting Friday.

Choosing Leeds for her visit aligns with the city’s commitment to becoming the premier location in the UK for the upbringing of young people and children.

The city’s initiative, Child-Friendly Leeds, launched in 2012, aims to enhance social and economic outcomes by investing in and supporting children, youth, and families.

During the recent BAFTA screening, the Princess of Wales expressed that the Shaping Us program embodies her life’s work.

The Leeds Kirkgate Market, established in 1857, houses numerous local independent businesses, offering a wide array of products and services, including fresh produce, butchers, fishmongers, a community library, cookery school, and volunteer center.

Collaborating with partners to implement enrichment programs, Leeds City Council has witnessed positive outcomes, including a decrease in the number of children in care, increased participation in education and employment among teenagers, and improved school attendance.

The Princess’s visit underscores the city’s dedication to fostering a nurturing environment for its younger residents.
